Motueka has a small rose garden. It is just 3 minutes walk from the place I stay, Abel Tasman Motel. On a Saturday morning, I decided to come here to pay a visit. Along the way, there was something that caught my attention. The Motueka Mountain is covered with snow! This means, winter is coming! Winter is a season that I am waiting for!
This rose garden is named after one of the employees in WD&Ho Wills Limited Company. This loyal employee is Mr. Charles E. Pethybridge Eso. To appreciate Charles’s 50 years (1914-1964) dedicated contribution, the chairman of the company, Mr. GW Johnson, built the garden as a token of remembrance. At the same time, this garden provides a leisure spot for the locals.
The rain started to fall by the time I reached here. The rain did not stop me from taking a stroll walk in the garden. There are red, pink, yellow and orange colour roses. Sad to say that there is not much bloom of flowers. I didn’t sense any rose fragrance. Maybe the rain has melted the smell away.
When I was taking picture with one of the roses, a little visitor appeared. She is a 5 year old girl. I talked with her in the garden. All these while the kids that I see in New Zealand are very lovely.
The rain began to fall a bit heavier. I have been forced to go back. I told the girl to go back home too and don’t let her mum worry.
